An operation was carried out in Tashkent region’s Yangiyol district on 19 February by the Tashkent regional NSS and interior directorates in order to step up the fight against illegal sale of drugs.

During the operation, suspected people living at 18 houses in the town of Yangiyol and Yangiyol District were checked. During the search, 20 g of opium in 19 packages and 10 g of marijuana, aimed for illegal sale, various medicines, syringes as well as equipment for measuring drugs, were found at 14 houses.

Scales for weighing drugs and US$2,800 were found at one of the houses.

During the operation, law-enforcement officers detained 14 people and an investigation is under way into the criminal case.
