Scotland held the referendum on 18 September 2014. The citizens of Scotland should decide if they want to be independent from the UK. Voters’ turnout made up 85%.
According to latest data, about 44.7% (1,617,989 people) voted for Independence of Scotland, while against independence – 55.3% (2,001,926 people).
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond accepted defeat. “Scotland has, by majority, decided at this stage not to be an independent nation. I accept that decision and call on all people in Scotland to do so,” he said.
