SCO members hold consultations on regional security issues
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia hosted consultations on problems of regional security of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and observer states on 14 November 2012, the Russian ministry said.

Deputy Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia, China, Pakistan and Russia, as well as high ranking officials of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, SCO Secretary and SCO Regional Anti-terrorism structure.

The sides underlined collective responses to such challenges as terrorism, drug trafficking, trans-border organized crime and others should be found in current difficult modern conditions. In this context, the sides exchanged opinion on situation in Afghanistan.

The sides expressed support to efforts of the Government of Afghanistan, directed at improving situation in security and social-economic sector, promoting process of Afghan reconciliation, developing democratic institutes. The sides also affirmed importance of cooperation with all interested countries, international and regional organizations and the UN should play key role in the process.

The participants underlined importance of regional cooperation on Afghanistan. In this context, the sides underlined role of Istanbul process, led by Afghanistan.

Representatives of the SCO states and United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan Jan Kubis expressed interest in establishing contacts between two organizations to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
