Scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in sericulture to be strengthened

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, led by the Director of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovations in Agriculture, Shukhrat Otajonov, is currently on a working visit to Azerbaijan.

During the visit, the delegation members visited the Sheki Regional Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The meeting provided detailed information on the scientific research in the field of sericulture, local mulberry varieties, silkworm breeds, their adaptation to climate, as well as the processes of selection and hybridization.

As part of the visit, a memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the Sericulture Research Institute, part of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovations in Agriculture, and the Sheki Regional Scientific Center.

The memorandum outlines the study of the economic utility of silkworm breeds and hybrids found in both countries, the use of mulberry varieties grown in Uzbekistan for scientific purposes in Azerbaijan and vice versa, as well as the exchange of experience and developments.

Additionally, the parties agreed to conduct joint research on wild silkworms that do not feed on mulberry, within the territory of Uzbekistan, the preparation of scientific articles, educational materials, and other publications based on the research findings, mutual exchange of necessary information and materials, and providing consulting and methodological support throughout the research process.

The delegation members also received a detailed introduction to the laboratory specializing in the production of hybrid silkworm eggs. Laboratory specialists presented practical information on the modern technologies used, egg breeding and sorting methods, genetic control processes, and protection measures.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to further strengthen ties in the field of sericulture and continue mutually beneficial cooperation.
