Schlumberger provides software to three Uzbek universities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Schlumberger provided its innovative software technologies for geological exploration and mining to three higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan. The software was developed by Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS).

Andrey Zozulya, director-general of Schlumberger in Uzbekistan, told UzDaily that the software for US$28.4 million were presented to National University of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Technical University named Abu Rayhan Beruniy and branch of the Russian State University for oil and gas named after Gubkin in Tashkent.

He said that the agreements on supply of software were signed with three universities in December, which are provided for free if the requirements of academic license are met.

The cooperation programme envisages hand over of software to universities, training, technical support, organization of technological days, conferences, student practice works, the representative of Schlumberger said.

The software are handed over to universities to train students within their curriculum and research works, he said.

He said that the software of Schlumberger is an industrial standards and used by majority of oil and gas companies, including oil and gas enterprises in Uzbekistan. Its use in education process will help to train highly skilled specialists.

Currently among clients of Schlumberger are giants of Russian and world oil and gas industries such as Gazprom, Rosneft, LUKOIL, Gazpromneft, TNK-BP, BP, RoyalDutch/Shell, ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco, Total, Agip and others. The company also actively cooperates with small and medium oil and gas companies as well.

Training of competitive specialists is not possible without use of latest software for all life cycle of the fields, he said.

Director-General of Schlumberger in Uzbekistan said that Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) specializes in providing innovative software for geologic exploration and mining, as well as services on creating and supporting information infrastructure and managing information.

Mr Zozulya said that SIS cooperates with universities to train highly skilled specialists and provide them licenses to its software for academic and research for free.

He said that it is planned to hold training for teachers of the universities on using the software of Schlumberger in order to improve efficiency of teaching.

Currently, within the programme about 60 largest universities, including 10 in Central Asian and Russia, have such software. Among them are Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, Heriot Watt, Texas A&M, and Russian universities – Moscow State University, Russian State University for oil and gas, Tyumen State oil and gas university, etc.

Head of Schlumberger in Uzbekistan underlined that it is pleasant that three leading universities of oil and gas direction in Uzbekistan are now have software of the international standard. This will allow to provide introduce new technologies to oil and gas sector of Uzbekistan with help of highly skilled cadres.
