Saneg launches over 70 km of new gas pipelines

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saneg has completed the construction and commissioned more than 70 km of new gas pipelines and 21 modular compressor stations (MCS) at key fields, including North Urtabulak, Sardob, Shurtepa, East Tashly, North Shurtan, Yangi Karatepa, and Turtsari.

As part of the project, 6 flare stacks were also extinguished, contributing to the improvement of the environmental situation.

The project was implemented in partnership with international companies Vema S.A. (Switzerland), ICA-Finance (Norway), and with the participation of GRDC (Uzbekistan), which developed the design documentation. The total cost of the two projects amounted to 14 million euros. The aim is to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and support Uzbekistan’s energy independence.

The main goal of the project is the utilization of associated petroleum gas, which was previously burned at flare stations, and its further processing for delivery to the country’s gas transportation system. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 138,632 tons annually and make efficient use of hydrocarbon resources, totaling over 70 million cubic meters of methane per year.

The design capacity of the pipelines and modular compressor stations at the fields exceeds 70 million cubic meters of methane annually. The installed compressors provide gas compression with a pressure range from 5 to 40 atmospheres.

Each technical solution includes the creation of a closed loop — from the well to the gas transportation system of Uzbekistan, and subsequent delivery of gas to end consumers.

To account for gas volumes, ultrasonic gas flow meters and specialized industrial equipment for accurate metering have been installed.

A similar project is planned at the Shirkent field. Currently, Saneg and VEMA S.A. are conducting studies to determine the volumes and composition of burned gas and to develop an optimal technical solution.

The project is the result of close cooperation with international partners, including Vema S.A. and ICA-Finance, who provided financing and oversight, as well as GRDC, which developed the working documentation.

The construction work was carried out by Saneg.

Saneg’s General Director, Tulkin Yusupov, noted that the company strives to implement the best technologies for the efficient use of resources and reducing anthropogenic impact, contributing to the transition to a green economy. Vema S.A. Director, Mikhail Partikevich, added that the successful implementation of the project strengthens Uzbekistan’s position on the international stage as a country adopting advanced solutions in the energy sector.

Earlier, the company successfully completed a gas leak detection and repair (LDAR) project in collaboration with VEMA S.A. and ICA-Finance, which reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 83,000 tons annually.
