Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Samarkand will host the theater festival of the Commonwealth of Independent States in March 2024, its participants will be artists representing nine theaters. This was announced at a meeting with representatives of the Russian media by the deputy khokim (head of administration) of the region for tourism, cultural heritage and sports, Rustam Kobilov. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
“Next year we will have cultural events in the CIS. In particular, the first theater festival in Samarkand, this has not happened before. Nine theaters from CIS member countries will be in Samarkand in March 2024,” he said.
R. Kobilov added that artists from the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will also take part in this cultural event. The festival will be opened by the play “Past Days” of the Samarkand Russian Drama Theater named after A.P. Chekhov.
“Samarkand has been declared the cultural capital of the Commonwealth for 2024. 21 events are planned,” noted the Deputy Governor of the Samarkand region. Among other things, a festival of libraries of the CIS countries will be held, Kobilov said.
Next year, Samarkand will become the cultural capital of the Commonwealth, and Tashkent will receive the status of the youth capital of the CIS.
