Jahon news agency reported that officials, political, business and cultural circles of Digne-les-Bains and French mass media participated in the opening ceremony.

Serge Gloaguen, mayor of Digne-les-Bains, said that opening of Samarkand Square in France is key event in history of the French-Uzbek bilateral relations.

He said that the decision of city administration and Municipal region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur on creation of Samarkand Square is acknowledgement of the French side of rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Samarkand. He added that opening of the square is gift for dynamically developing Uzbekistan.
