Samarkand officially chosen as the venue for the 43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Samarkand has officially been selected as the venue for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. The formal signing ceremony of the agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and UNESCO took place at the organization's headquarters in Paris.

As noted by the President’s assistant, Saida Mirziyoyeva, this is not only a great honor but also a responsibility for the country, as it marks the first time in 40 years that the conference will not be held in Paris. The agreement was reached thanks to the active efforts of the creative industry and high-level people-to-people diplomacy.

"This reflects the global interest in the openness of our country, its vibrant traditions, cultural heritage, and rich history, music, and literature. We promote our country through culture and art, making it closer and more understandable. These connections always lead to economic cooperation, joint projects, and shared ideas," emphasized Saida Mirziyoyeva.

The 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, focusing on education, science, and culture, will take place this year. The unanimous decision to hold it in Samarkand was made at the 42nd General Conference session in 2023.
