Samarkand hosts exhibition “Charm of duppi ornaments”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An exhibition “Charm of duppi ornaments” opened at Chorsu Galley in Samarkand city on 6 March 2013. The exhibition is dedicated to the International Women’s Day and Navruz.

The exhibition is organized by Samarkand State Museum in cooperation with the Gallery of fine arts “Chorsu”.

The exhibition presented over 250 various duppis, national Uzbek men’s and women’s headwear, from all regions of Uzbekistan. The exhibits are part of collection of the Samarkand State Museum, which it collects for over 100 years.

Duppi is the most respected part of cloth in Uzbekistan. People believe that it is wealth and it protects head from various negative impacts and illnesses. There are a lot of legends connected with duppi.

Production of duppis is one of the most spread and mass type of folk applied art. Duppi is also national headwear in other nations of Central Asia.

Ornaments of duppi reflect real world. Ornament of duppi can include images of roses, iris, carnations, tulips, rooster combs, almonds, pepper, pomegranate flower, pheasant, rooster, the nightingale, etc. However, almonds, which is considered as “tree of life” frequently used as ornament of the duppi.

The exhibition is held from 9:00 to 17:00 till 31 March 2013.
