Sales of electric vehicles in Uzbekistan surge 2.4 times

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In September 2024, vehicle sales in Uzbekistan showed a slight decline overall, though the segment of new passenger cars saw a growth of over 10%. Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) reached record levels, increasing 2.4 times, indicating a growing interest in environmentally friendly transportation.

According to the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, the total number of vehicles sold in September was 110,100 units, representing a 1.1% decrease compared to August.

On a year-over-year basis, the decline was more significant at 25.5%.

Passenger Car Segment

In September, the volume of passenger car sales slightly decreased by 0.3%, reaching 101,600 units, with a year-over-year decrease of 25.5%.

A regional analysis shows that the most substantial drop in car sales was observed in Andijan (down 9.1%), Kashkadarya (down 7.9%), and Tashkent (down 7.7%) regions.

In the third quarter of 2024, total vehicle sales amounted to 295,600 units, a 26.8% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Primary Car Market

On the primary market for passenger cars, sales in September grew by 10.3% compared to August, adding about 3,800 more vehicles. Annually, the situation is stabilizing: while August saw a 1% drop, September registered a 7.7% growth.

Sales of newly produced domestic cars continue to rise, with a 10.8% increase in September, bringing total sales to 37,600 units. On a year-over-year basis, growth was 12%.

Foreign Car Segment

Sales of foreign-made passenger cars also continued to rise. However, in September, the growth slowed to 4.5% (3,300 units) compared to a more significant 25.6% increase in August.

Secondary Market

The secondary market for passenger cars experienced a decline in activity, dropping by 6.3% in September compared to August. A total of 60,500 vehicles were sold in this segment during the month. Year-over-year, the market continues to show a more pronounced decrease, down by 38.4%.

Electric Vehicles

The electric vehicle segment demonstrated remarkable growth. In September, sales increased 2.4 times, reaching 4,240 units—a record for the observed period. In August, this figure stood at 1,700 units.

Regionally, the largest growth in EV sales was recorded in Tashkent (3,180 units), Tashkent region (285 units), and Andijan region (119 units).

Year-over-year, electric vehicle sales grew by 17%.

In the third quarter of this year, EV sales totaled 9,300 units, a 5.6% decrease compared to the same period last year.
