Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A memorandum has been signed for the construction of the "Saint Petersburg Quarter" in New Tashkent.
The project will be designed by architects from Saint Petersburg, according to the press service of the city administration.
"Today we are launching an iconic project — the construction of the ‘Saint Petersburg Quarter’ in New Tashkent. This will be an entire neighborhood named after our city. We have the best specialists in urban planning working on this, and we want this quarter to become one of the most beautiful in Tashkent. It will bring a piece of Russia’s northern capital to the capital of Uzbekistan," said Saint Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.
The idea of creating the quarter belongs to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. New Tashkent is the largest urban development project in the country’s modern history and aims to build a new city adjacent to the eastern part of the existing Tashkent.
Construction of the first residential and infrastructure facilities in New Tashkent began in April 2024, with the project scheduled for completion by 2045.
