Russian leader ratifies Russian-Uzbek agreement on encouraging investments
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a federal law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments”.

The State Duma of Russia passed the federal law on 20 December 2013 and Federation Council approved it on 25 December 2013.

The agreement was signed within the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Russia, which took place on 14-15 April 2013.

The agreement envisages to grant the most-favorouble regime for investors, in which each contracting party will provide favourable conditions to investors of other contracting party as to its own investor or other third part investor.

It guarantees protection of investments and income of investors from forced nationalization, expropriation or other measures having the same effect, except in cases where such measures are taken in the public interest.

The document sets right of the investor to receive adequate compensation in case of damage to his investments. The document guarantees free transfer of payments related to the investments to abroad. It also provides measures of judicial protection of investors, including at the international arbitrations.

The commission said that the document will protect interests of the Russian and Uzbek investors, as well as boost investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved the agreement with his resolution from 12 June 2013.
