Uzbekistan 23/01/2009 Russia, Uzbekistan propose to hold conference on Afghan problem

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russian and Uzbek Presidents proposed to hold international conference on Afghan problem under the auspice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

“We have reached understanding that these issues should be resolved through joint action,” Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said in a press conference at the end of talks with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov. “We propose to hold international conference on Afghan problem under the SCO auspice.”

The Presidents discussed Afghan problem in the Oksaroy residence in Uzbekistan. “The situation in Afghanistan, especially situation along border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, can not be reviewed without taking into consideration relations between the two countries,” Russian President stated.
