Russia and Uzbekistan sign an agreement on the mutual recognition of education and qualifications, academic degrees

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Urgench (Republic of Uzbekistan), at the meeting of the Joint Commission, in the presence of Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Head of the Government of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, an agreement was signed on the mutual recognition of education and skills, academic degrees of two states.

On the part of the Russian Federation, the Agreement was signed by First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov, on the part of the Republic of Uzbekistan - by the Head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of the Quality of Education under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Tashkenbayev.

The agreement is aimed at developing bilateral cooperation in the field of education and science, ensuring mutual recognition of education and qualifications, degrees obtained in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as enhancing interaction between educational and scientific organizations of both countries.

The agreement will allow graduates of universities in Russia and Uzbekistan to continue their education and carry out professional activities in either of the two states, which will contribute to the development of academic mobility between countries, attracting foreign students and highly qualified personnel.

 Today in Uzbekistan there are several branches of Russian universities - NITU "MISiS", Moscow State University. MVLomonosova, Russian Economic University named after G.V. Plekhanov, University. Gubkin. In the coming years, it is planned to open branches of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, the State University of the Russian Language. A.S. Pushkin.

Every year, Uzbek citizens are given the opportunity to study at Russian universities at the expense of the federal budget within the framework of the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation. The most popular specialties among Uzbek students are “Economics”, “Jurisprudence” and “General Medicine”. And the most popular universities in the 2018/19 school year were the National Research University Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg State University and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.

“At the moment, students who receive education in branches of Russian universities in Uzbekistan are forced to go through a long procedure for the recognition of diplomas. Therefore, the signing of the Agreement is a very important step, a definite breakthrough in relations. I am sure that the inter-university exchange will increase, the number of students in our branches in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek universities will become more actively involved in the research agenda of Russian universities. Within the framework of the national project “Science”, it is planned to attract foreign researchers to scientific research in Russia, and the Agreement will give this process a new impetus,” Grigory Trubnikov said.
