Reports on women sterilization are not confirmed – Jahon
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Reports in “yellow media” on use of contraception, especially, use surgery sterilization in Uzbekistan, were not confirmed, the press release, published at the website of Jahon news agency, said.

Till 1990, abortion was main method of preventing undesirable pregnancy in Uzbekistan. Annually 6% of women of fertile age used abortion. In 1991-2011, the level of abortion in Uzbekistan decreased five years and no criminal cases on abortion were registered.

The release said that population of Uzbekistan familiarized with various methods on preventing pregnancy. According to the surveys of international organizations (WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA), 909.9% of all women of fertile age are familiarized with modern contraception means. The most popular methods are endometrial spirals, oral tablets and injections. In 1991, only 13% of women in fertile age used contraception and the figure reached 67% in the end of 2011. Use of contraception is equal both in rural (69%) and city (66%) areas.

It added that 65.6% of women used endometrial spirals in 2011 and 27.2% - hormone contraceptives, as well as 7.2% of women used voluntary surgery contraceptives.

Voluntary surgery contraceptives are widely used method in the world. Some 20% of women in the US use voluntary surgery contraceptives, 25% in Asia, and 30% in Latin America and Caribbean states. The figure makes up 6-14% in many developed states (Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain and others).
