Rashid Alimov: Participation of SCO mission in observation of election is demonstration of openness of Uzbek community
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing hosted a roundtable titled “Elections of the President of Uzbekistan in context of modern development of the country” on 9 November 2016.

Rashid Alimov, Secretary-General of SCO, said that the SCO mission will observe presidential elections in Uzbekistan. He said that the mission of the organization is almost formed.

The mission includes representatives of parliaments, central and territorial member states of the SCO states, as well as officials of the SCO Secretariat. The mission will be headed by the SCO Secretary-General.

Alimov said that the mission will arrive in Uzbekistan one week ahead of elections. He added that the organization currently studies legislation on elections of Uzbekistan, monitors mass media and agitation campaigns of the candidates.

He said that election campaign is widely covered in mass media, including in internet. He said people of Uzbekistan have wide access to information on elections, presidential hopefuls and their programmes. People can compare them, he added.

Alimov said that the mission wants to cover maximum number of voting sights. SCO Secretary-General said that the elections are not held for international observers , but for further development of the country.

SCO official said that the presidential elections are held in high level and will serve to social-economic development of Uzbekistan, expanding cooperation with key international partners, including SCO.
