Prices for liquefied gas at UZEX hit record high
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Weighted average prices for liquefied natural gas (LN gas) at Uzbekistan Commodity Exchange (UZEX) exceeded 2.5 million soums. According to the analytical service of the UZEX, this is the record high in 2011 (920,000 soums in January 2011).

According to UZEX, average monthly price of LN gas grew three times compared to the beginning of the year. First of all, this is connected with minimum volume of proposal. For example, the LN gas proposal made up 12,000 tonnes in September, which is 58% lower compared to August volume.

Till May 2011, average monthly sales were at the level of 19,000 tonnes. But, from June to September, the LN gas offers volume fell up to 16,000 tonnes. According to analysts of the exchange, this immediately affected to formation of weighted average prices at the UZEX.

Largest producer of LN gas in Uzbekistan, ShurtanGas Chemical Combine, decreased sales volumes almost by 40%. In September, the sales volume made up 4,700 tonnes. In August, the sales volume made up 8,600 tonnes.

Other large LN gas producers – Shortanneftegaz and Shortan Gas Mahsulot – demonstrate stability on the supply volume at the exchange in 2011. Average monthly volume of Shortanneftegaz supply made up 5,700 tonnes and Shortan Gaz Mahsulot slightly exceeded 2,600 tonnes.

According to UZEX traders, even the Uzbek producers will increase supply volume, the prices will not significantly drop.

In 2010, total volume of LN gas supply at UZEX increased to 233,000 tonnes. The figure was 195,000 tonnes in 2009.

Uzbekneftegaz is planning to increase production of LN gas by 2.8 times to 586,900 tonnes. It is planned to attract US$320 million of foreign investments to projects on installing new capacities and reconstruction of existing ones. The capacities will mainly increase at Mubarek Gas Processing Plant and Shortanneftegaz.
