Press service of the President told APA President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said visit of President of Uzbekistan was an important phase in the development of dynamic and useful relations between the countries. "Similarity of our traditions, cultures and languages united us. We always supported each other in the international organizations and we will continue this support further. We highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s attitude to the issues of Azerbaijan in the international organizations. We will also support brother country if it is necessary".

President of Azerbaijan noted that they were acting as close allies and there were common features in the approach of the two countries in evaluation of situation in the Caucasus, Caspian Region and Central Asia. "We wish for peace in our region, for stability in the Caucasus and for fair solutions to the conflicts within the norms and principles of international law. In this moment we will have more opportunities for cooperation in the region. We are looking forward for the joint projects, which will create opportunities for closer cooperation, joint production and investments, if investors wish that. We intend to involve all mechanisms of market relations to make our countries closer. There are all conditions for that: traditional historic and cultural relations, common approach to many issues of regional policy and international activity. I am sure that development of the visit will be very successful".

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov expressed his satisfaction with the talks held in the atmosphere of traditional sincerity and mutual confidence characteristic of Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan relations.

"We thoroughly discussed bilateral cooperation, exchanged views on urgent issues of regional activity and international problems. We noted that our positions coincided on the majority of the issues discussed. We consider that seven documents signed on the level of the states and governments, as well as the contracts signed with Azerbaijan will contribute to the development of our relations, pave the way for the implementation of joint projects," he said.

Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan supported peaceful solution to Nagorno Karabakh problem.

"We also think that to ensure Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity should be one of the main principles of the settlement of the conflict. In my opinion the model for the solution to Nagorno Karabakh problem offered by Azerbaijan is optimal and acceptable. Of course, this is my opinion, but I am sure that all, who objectively assess the happenings within the past 17 years, will agree to it. Karabakh problem began in 1988 and I think all, who attentively followed the processes, unambiguously support the position of Azerbaijan," he said.

Islam Karimov stated that the visit of Uzbek delegation to Azerbaijan would be an important stage in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
