President Reviews Large-Scale Transport Infrastructure Development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reviewed a presentation dedicated to the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.

It was noted that the transport system plays a key role in ensuring connectivity between economic sectors, supporting regional development, and reducing logistics distances for both the population and businesses. In this context, special attention is being given to the development of highways, civil aviation, logistics infrastructure, and international transport corridors.

### Alternative Tashkent–Samarkand highway project

During the presentation, the construction of an alternative highway between Tashkent and Samarkand was reviewed. The planned road will be 282 kilometers long and will connect Tashkent, Syrdarya, Jizzakh, and Samarkand regions.

The highway will be classified as a category I-a road with cement-concrete pavement and three lanes in each direction. The design speed is set at 150 km/h.

The project includes the construction of:

* 12 interchanges
* 60 tunnel passages
* 91 bridges
* 16 overpasses
* 258 drainage structures

An intelligent transport system will also be introduced, along with 12 terminals, roadside service infrastructure, and a weighing control system.

Instructions were given to accelerate negotiations with potential investors and begin construction work as soon as possible.

### Civil aviation development

Special attention was paid to the development of civil aviation. Seven international airports across the regions are being reconstructed in line with modern standards. In addition, new airports have been built in Muynak, Kokand, Zaamin, Shakhrisabz, Sariosiyo, and Sokh districts, bringing the total number to 18.

Work is underway to increase the commercial independence of Navoi International Airport, which has been granted the right to independently negotiate and sign contracts with airlines.

By 2030, it is planned to:

* increase the number of flights by 2.3 times (up to 7,000 per year)
* increase passenger traffic to 150,000 people
* increase cargo transportation to 45,000 tons per year

A “port franco” free economic zone is also planned on the basis of the airport.

### New Tashkent International Airport

The construction project of the new “New Tashkent” international airport was also reviewed. Its capacity will be 20 million passengers per year.

The passenger terminal will cover 208,400 square meters. The project includes 169 aircraft parking stands and two runways, each 4 km long.

Environmental and social impact assessments have already been completed. Relocation of utility networks has begun, and negotiations with design and construction companies are ongoing.

### Aviation infrastructure and fuel development

Issues related to aviation fuel supply were also discussed. The total capacity of fuel storage facilities at airports is 49,000 tons.

By 2030, it is planned to:

* increase aviation fuel production to 600,000 tons per year
* expand storage capacity to 80,000 tons

New storage facilities will be built at international airports in Navoi, Andijan, Bukhara, Urgench, and New Tashkent.

The President emphasized the importance of phased implementation of international standards, digitalization of management processes, and strengthening state oversight of infrastructure safety and quality.
