President Orders Acceleration of Development in Lagging Districts of Jizzakh Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 July, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the progress of ongoing reforms, local project implementation, and efforts to address pressing social and economic issues in the Jizzakh region.

The focus of the meeting was on the priorities set by the presidential decree dated 31 December 2024, which outlines measures for the accelerated development of the region. According to the document, the goals for 2025 include attracting US$2 billion in investments, boosting exports to US$285 million, and providing employment for 168,000 people.

Within the framework of these objectives, 200 projects in industry, services, and agriculture have been implemented across the region in the first six months of the year, with a total of US$662 million in investments attracted.

However, it was noted during the meeting that several districts — Dustlik, Zafarabad, Paxtakor, and Mirzachul — are lagging behind the regional average in terms of growth. In response, the President instructed that new investment projects be prioritized in these areas to create jobs and stimulate employment.

In recent months, the region has seen the opening of major tourism facilities worth US$250 million, leading to a twofold increase in tourist flow. It was emphasized that the Jizzakh region has strong potential for further growth in the tourism sector.

Another strategic asset of the egion is its land. Despite having 1.3 million hectares of agricultural land, only 40 percent is currently cultivated. Income per hectare remains low compared to other regions. More rational use of this land could significantly increase the production of agricultural goods and animal feed, which is vital for livestock development.

At the President's initiative, a special reform headquarters was established in the region, bringing together representatives of local authorities, industry experts, and entrepreneurs. This body serves as a coordination platform for developing and implementing integrated development projects.

During the meeting, the headquarters presented a new investment portfolio comprising 200 projects totaling US$520 million. These projects are expected to create 12,000 new jobs, generate 120 billion soums in tax revenue, and boost export potential by US$100 million.

The President emphasized the importance of ensuring the economic viability and market relevance of the proposed initiatives.

He stressed that district governors and reform team members must act in coordination, guided by the real needs of the economy and local communities. Only such an approach can deliver meaningful progress in industry, agriculture, tourism, and services.

Concluding the meeting, the President stated that if all planned measures are effectively implemented, the Jizzakh region could become a national leader in attracting investment, creating jobs, increasing incomes, and expanding export capacity.
