President of Uzbekistan participates in the CIS Summit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 October, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the Council of Heads of States meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), chaired by President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation.

The summit was also attended by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.

The discussions focused on the prospects for developing multilateral relations and pressing issues of cooperation within the CIS. Shavkat Mirziyoyev commended Russia’s leadership of the CIS, emphasizing the importance of ensuring security and sustainable development for member states.

He stressed the need to strengthen collaboration among intelligence services, enhance cybersecurity, and take coordinated measures to address contemporary challenges.

The President of Uzbekistan highlighted a 16% growth in trade turnover with CIS countries and proposed holding a CIS Economic Council meeting in Tashkent in spring 2025 during the "Innoprom" exhibition. He also underscored the importance of joint work in the fields of internet technologies, big data, the creative economy, green energy, and nuclear technologies.

Additionally, Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested regularly organizing meetings of CIS experts and analysts, proposing the next conference focus on artificial intelligence. He also emphasized the development of humanitarian ties, advocating for CIS Cultural Days and joint events in healthcare, education, tourism, and sports.

The President of Uzbekistan congratulated President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on assuming the CIS chairmanship for 2025. The summit concluded with the adoption of several agreements on key areas of cooperation.
