Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A Climate Council has been established in Uzbekistan under the President, which will serve as the highest advisory body on issues related to mitigating the effects of climate change and adapting to them.

This initiative was implemented based on a decree issued by the President of Uzbekistan. The primary tasks of the council include monitoring the country’s compliance with its commitments under the 1992 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 2015 Paris Agreement, adopted to enhance the implementation of this convention.

Additionally, according to the decree, the National Center for Green Transformation and Climate Change Adaptation has been renamed the National Center for Climate Change, also known as the Climate Center.

To strengthen the scientific and academic potential and to advance fundamental research in Uzbekistan, a Climate Science Forum (residency), also known as the Climate Residency, will be established within the framework of the Central Asian University for Environmental Studies and Climate Change (Green University).
