Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 June, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

During the meeting, practical measures for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were discussed. It was noted that in a short period, two meetings of the Working Group had been held, active negotiations with member countries were underway, discussions on agricultural support conditions had begun, and work continued on harmonizing national legislation with the norms and rules of the Organization.

Special attention was given to cooperation in the development of the "green" economy, e-commerce, and the expansion of digital services exports. The importance of enhancing the capacity of Uzbek experts in international trade regulation was also discussed. In this context, it was proposed to establish a Trade Policy Competence Center in Uzbekistan with the support of the WTO.

President Mirziyoyev thanked the Director-General of the WTO for participating in the "round table" and meeting with students of leading universities in Uzbekistan, and congratulated her on being awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

In conclusion, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed her support for Uzbekistan’s efforts to join the WTO.
