Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 January, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in Uzbek-Turkmen political consultations.
At the beginning of the meeting, Rashid Meredov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the President of Uzbekistan from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhammedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
During the talks, the sides discussed key issues concerning the strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen relations, which are based on friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership. It was noted that the volume of mutual trade continues to grow, exceeding 1.1 billion dollars in 2024. The joint implementation of the "Shavat-Dashoguz" cross-border trade zone project was highlighted. Furthermore, partnership relations are actively developing in industrial cooperation, energy, transportation and logistics, agriculture, and the rational use of water resources. Interregional cooperation and cultural-humanitarian exchanges are also expanding.
The leadership of Turkmenistan expressed deep gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for organizing the presentation of the book "Hakyda göwheri" ("Pearl of Wisdom") by Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, published in the Uzbek language, in Tashkent.
The sides paid particular attention to the formation of a new partnership program between the two countries, the preparation of upcoming high-level visits, including the Consultative Meeting of Heads of State in the region and summits in the "Central Asia plus" format.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on current issues in international politics.
