President of Uzbekistan advocates for strategic partnership program with AIIB until 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 September, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), during the bank’s annual Board of Governors meeting.

At the start of the meeting, the AIIB President expressed his sincere gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for supporting and organizing this key event in Samarkand. He also reaffirmed AIIB’s commitment to assisting Uzbekistan with its ongoing reforms.

The two sides discussed specific steps to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and AIIB. It was noted that in recent years, the volume of joint projects has exceeded US$3 billion, making Uzbekistan the bank’s largest beneficiary in the region and the sixth largest globally in terms of operations.

Significant projects are currently being implemented in transportation, energy, healthcare, agriculture, utilities, and entrepreneurship development.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed developing a Strategic Partnership Program with AIIB until 2030, focused on infrastructure development. Key areas of the program would include poverty reduction, the construction of New Tashkent, support for public-private partnerships, and reforms in education, water supply, transportation, and energy sectors.

Particular attention was given to advancing major infrastructure projects in Central Asia.

Following the meeting, in the presence of the President of Uzbekistan, an updated "roadmap" was signed, outlining projects worth more than US$4 billion through 2026.
