President: Construction Industry Is One of the Drivers of the Country’s Economy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated builders, engineers, architects, and industry veterans on their professional holiday, highlighting their significant contribution to shaping the modern appearance of the country and improving the welfare of its population.

The head of state emphasized that the construction industry has become one of the drivers of the national economy: over eight years, the volume of construction work increased from 30 trillion soums in 2016 to nearly 234 trillion soums in 2024. Last year, 40.5 million square meters of buildings and structures were commissioned, and this year the figure is expected to exceed 45 million square meters.

In 2024, 2,044 multi-story residential buildings were constructed, comprising over 100,000 apartments, while housing space per capita increased from 16 to 19 square meters. Accelerated construction continues on 56 “New Uzbekistan” housing complexes, with their number expected to reach 100 by 2030, providing an additional 250,000 apartments.

Special attention is given to the “New Tashkent” project covering 20,000 hectares, where infrastructure is being developed to accommodate two million people. This includes the National Library, New Uzbekistan University, the Alisher Navoi Museum and Research Center, and other major facilities.

The president noted active implementation of digital technologies — more than 30 information systems, the “Transparent Construction” platform, the “Escrow” system, and digitalization of urban planning documents. These measures aim to increase transparency, reduce bureaucracy, and improve construction quality.

In conclusion, Shavkat Mirziyoyev called on builders to work with even greater dedication, emphasizing that every building is a legacy for future generations, and wished them success in their creative labor.
