Presentation of project on developing national segment of Internet held in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A presentation of social project “Assisting youth in developing national segment of internet” was held in Tashkent on 29 July.

The event was organized by the Center for Youth Initiatives, Kamolot, Public Fund for support of NGOs and other civil society institutes under Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special education of Uzbekistan.

The first project is aimed at supporting gifted youth in ICT sector, develop national segment of Internet and creation of local youth websites and social networks.

Majority of population of Uzbekistan makes up youth. Currently, 10.4 million people, living in Uzbekistan, are people at the age of up to 18 or 40% of total population. About 17 million people or 64% of population are people at the age of up to 30.

The youth are actively using internet now and it is necessary to develop national internet resources and internet journalism in the country.

Within the project, it is planned to hold a media camp, trainings, master classes for young people on internet journalism and web development.

From May to June 2015, about 64 universities hosted trainings, which were attended by 3,268 people and 127 gifted people were selected to participate in next stage of the project – summer educational camp and media camp.

In the result of media camp, it is planned to create youth media platform in the form of information and entertainment portal, which will play a key role in developing youth journalism in Uzbekistan.
