Preparations are under way for ‘In the Name of Life’ charity football match
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Preparations got under way for “In the Name of Life” charity football match, slated for April 25 at Bunyodkor Stadium, which will raise funds for the benefit of women living with breast cancer in Uzbekistan.

Like last year’s match, which drew thousands of people, the teams for the upcoming game will be made up of Uzbek celebrities - pop and film stars - and members of Kelajak Ovozi Youth Initiative Center.

The first fundraising football match held in April last year at Tashkent’s JAR Stadium was a hit with not only football fans who got to watch a match filled with thrill and fun, but also everyone who got an opportunity to watch their favorite singers and actors demonstrate their football skills.

“Will the charitable football match be held this year as well?” was one of the most frequently asked questions at Fund Forum’s end-of-the-year online conference held on December 20, 2012. Apparently, the answer that came from the match organizers and participants is “Yes!”

The line-up for this year’s match includes Uzbek pop and film stars such as Alisher Uzoqov, Jahongir Poziljonov, Valijon Shamsiyev, Shukurullo Isroilov, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, Rashid Halikov, Ulugbek Rahmatullayev, Alisher Fayz and music groups Zarba, Sahro and Ummon among others.

Last year’s charity football match raised a total of 216 million soums, part of which came from the sale of tickets to the match. Similarly, the upcoming match will be an opportunity not only to witness an exciting game played by Uzbek celebrities, but also to make a contribution to a charitable cause.
