All advertising banners covering mosaic panels on houses were dismantled in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, the Department of Digital Development of the Tashkent city khokimiyat and the Agency of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan announce the release of all residential buildings in Tashkent on which mosaics were located from advertising structures.

On 25 March 2024, Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 154 “On making additions to the national list of real estate objects of tangible cultural heritage” was issued, the above mosaics were accepted for state registration, comprehensive study, preservation and rational use to create conditions for increasing their role and significance , as well as improving the tourism potential of the sites.

The resolution approved the proposal of the Cultural Heritage Agency, the Art and Culture Development Foundation, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional khokimiyats and the city of Tashkent to include mosaic compositions made on the walls of buildings located on the territory of the republic in the National List of Real Estate Objects of Tangible Cultural Heritage.

“The Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan has been implementing a program to preserve the country’s cultural heritage since 2021. Thanks to the efforts made by our employees who studied, compiled lists and further worked to include mosaic panels in the National List of Tangible Cultural Heritage Objects, the mosaics were placed under state protection. We are grateful to the government support, as well as to the caring citizens who sent information about the mosaics to the created mail.” — Gayane Umerova, Chairman of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan.

Based on the resolution, measures were taken to include mosaic compositions made on the walls of buildings located on the territory of the Republic into the state cadastre in the prescribed manner.

A program to preserve mosaic panels and free them from advertising structures was successfully implemented in Tashkent. From April to early June, more than 40 mosaics were released. In total, more than 70 mosaics were removed from buildings in the capital.

The last advertising banner was removed from the house at 2 Beruniy Street.
