Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 May, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the United Nations delegation led by Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Sima Sami Bahous.
The UN delegation is visiting Uzbekistan as part of the Asian Women’s Forum, which recently took place in Samarkand.
The head of the leading United Nations institution for gender equality conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the sincere greetings and best wishes of Secretary-General António Guterres.
The reforms being effectively implemented in Uzbekistan, which aim to radically improve the situation and increase women’s status in society, were highly appreciated.
At the meeting, issues of further deepening the constructive partnership of Uzbekistan with UN Women were discussed.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan has acceded to all major international conventions protecting the rights and promoting the interests of women and actively participates in the work of the relevant UN Commission.
The fruitful results of the Asian Women’s Forum were highly appreciated. The importance of its transformation into a permanent platform for dialogue on issues of empowering women in the Asian region was noted.
The need to adopt a bilateral Cooperation Program for the medium term, including specific projects and activities, including regional interaction, was emphasized.
The opening of a representative office of UN Women in Uzbekistan was supported.
