Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 December, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva received UN Deputy Secretary-General, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatyana Valovaya.

During the conversation, important issues related to the multilateral active and effective cooperation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the United Nations were discussed.

It was noted that the efforts of Uzbekistan to solve regional and global problems, the initiatives put forward by the President of the country on topical issues on the international agenda, are supported by the UN. And this, in turn, means that relations with this authoritative structure are becoming consistent.

Chairwoman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva stressed that in recent years, the interaction of Uzbekistan with the UN and its specialized structures has reached a qualitatively new level. Our country demonstrates adherence to the goals and principles of the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other major international treaties and strictly fulfills its obligations. The main priority areas implemented jointly with the UN institutions within the framework of programs and projects are fully consistent with the goals and objectives of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on various areas of effective interaction between Uzbekistan and the UN, including the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, it was noted that a Parliamentary Commission had been established to control the implementation of National goals and targets in the field of sustainable development until 2030 and regular monitoring of the government’s activities in their implementation.

In turn, UN Deputy Secretary-General Tatyana Valovaya, noting the work done in the framework of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, stressed the importance of achieving the above goals through continuous improvement of legislation, when the parliamentary dimension is a key decisive factor.

During the dialogue, the focus was on ensuring human rights and freedoms, gender equality, equal rights and empowerment of women and girls.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue a systematic dialogue and expand projects aimed at strengthening cooperation.
