Uzbekistan climbs four positions up in the Global Innovation Index and takes 3rd place among the countries of Central and South Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 September, the results of the Global Innovation Index for 2022 were announced. Uzbekistan ranked 82nd out of 132 countries in the GII ranking, moving up four positions up compared to last year.
Switzerland took 1st place, Korea - 6 (1), China - 11 (1), Russia - 47 (2), Belarus - 77 (15), Armenia - 80 (11), Kazakhstan - 83 (4), Azerbaijan - 93 (13), Kyrgyzstan - 94 (4), Tajikistan - 104 (1).
This year’s report focuses on the theme "The Future of Innovative Development", which assesses the impact of innovation on the productivity and well-being of society over the next decade.
In 2015, Uzbekistan ranked 122nd among 141 countries, after a long break, in 2020 it returned to the ranking, rising by 29 positions among 131 countries and taking 93rd place.
This year, Uzbekistan has risen by 4 positions, and in the Innovation Input sub-index - by 7 positions, ranking 68th, in the Innovation output sub-index it has risen by 9 positions, ranking 91- place.
In the current year’s ranking, Uzbekistan ranked 10th among the countries of the lower middle income group and 3rd among the countries of Central and South Asia after Iran and India. Among the countries of Central and South Asia, Uzbekistan occupies a leading position in such indices as institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, and the level of development of the domestic market.
According to the ranking, Uzbekistan’s strong performance at the world level in the following indicators: "Number of graduates in the field of science and technology" - 6th place, "Gross fixed capital formation" - 6th place, "Labor productivity growth" - 7th place , "Entrepreneurship Support Policy" - 22nd place, "Cluster Development" - 27th place.
The Global Innovation Index is a study that assesses the level of innovative development of countries, developed in collaboration with Cornell University in the USA, the French business school Insead and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The Global Innovation Index consists of 81 indicators and characterizes the innovative development of countries at different levels of economic development. This index is calculated on the basis of the average value of the indicators of the two groups. The first group includes the available resources and conditions for the introduction of innovations (Innovation Input) - institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, the domestic market and the level of business development. The second group includes the practical results achieved in the implementation of innovations (Innovation Output) - the development of technologies and the knowledge economy, as well as the results of creative activity.
The Strategy for Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 was adopted in order to accelerate innovative development in the republic, the widespread introduction of innovations and technologies in all sectors of the economy, the development of human capital, science and innovation. The main goal is our country’s entry into the 56 leading countries of the world according to the Global Innovation Index by 2026, the press service of the Ministry of Innovation reports.
