Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, in connection with the comments that appeared on social networks regarding the accident at the Tupalanga hydroelectric power station, reports the following.
Currently, a project is being implemented at the Tupalangskaya HPP to modernize it and increase its capacity from 30 MW to 180 MW. According to preliminary data, as a result of damage to the temporary valve installed on the pressure pipeline, the release of water increased by 40 cubic meters per second.
“We note that the throughput of the outlet channel is 600 cubic meters per second and during the leak the water flow increased up to 160 cubic meters per second,” the Ministry said in the statement.
At the moment, the leakage from the pressure pipeline has been stopped. The ministry informed that this situation does not affect the state of the dam, the dam on the Tupalang reservoir is not damaged.
Currently, the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC flew to the site to find out the causes of the incident and take measures to prevent such situations.
The ministry asks residents to use only official information in any controversial issue. More selective information about what happened will be given from the scene.
