Earthquake in Afghanistan: 280 dead, 500 injured

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At least 280 people have died as a result of a powerful earthquake in southeastern Afghanistan. It was reported by Al Jazeera TV channel.

The Afghan authorities said that the death toll from the earthquake has reached 280, another 500 people were injured. It is noted that most of the deaths were recorded in the province of Paktika, where 250 people became victims of tremors at once. Also, deaths were detected in the provinces of Nangarhar and Khost.

On the night of 21-22 June, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in Afghanistan. The source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 51 km. It is noted that tremors were felt by about 120 million people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.
