Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 May, the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labor was held in the city of Durban in the Republic of South Africa in a hybrid form.
The event, organized by the International Labor Organization, discussed the problem of child labor and forced labor, measures taken by states and international organizations to address this problem, issues of ensuring the rights of the child, work done in 2021 as part of the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labor declared by the UN General Assembly.
This international event, held at a high level, was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Chairman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva, the Director General of the International Labor Organization Guy Ryder, the Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation Sharran Barrow, the Director-General International Organization of Employers Suarez Santos and about 4 thousand representatives from 187 member states of the International Labor Organization.
Taking into account the work done in our country to completely eradicate child labor and forced labor as soon as possible, only Uzbekistan among the member states of the International Labor Organization, as a state that fully meets international standards in the field of labor, along with large organizations of international and regional levels, was given the opportunity to take part in the opening ceremony with opening remarks.
At the event, the Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva spoke and noted that in our country, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, systemic reforms have been carried out in all areas in recent years, significant results have been achieved in regulating labor relations based on international standards.
The head of the Senate noted that in this direction, first of all, large-scale work has been carried out to improve national legislation in accordance with international standards, develop the institutional framework, conduct monitoring and research, and modernize agriculture.
In particular, it was noted that in order to improve national legislation in this area, 32 regulatory legal acts were adopted during 2019-2021, an average of two conventions of the International Labor Organization are ratified annually, and criminal liability for child labor and forced labor has been strengthened in this area. .
It was emphasized that in combating child labor and forced labor, introducing the principles of decent work, national and territorial commissions have been created to combat child labor and forced labor, the Institute of the National Rapporteur on these issues has been established, which made it possible to effectively coordinate work in this area.
In addition, it was separately noted that effective cooperation has been established with international organizations and foreign countries in the field of preventing child labor and forced labor, in particular, measures taken jointly with the International Labor Organization have proved to be effective.
It was stated that in recent years, thanks to the strong political will of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a systematic approach to existing problems, child labor and forced labor have been completely eradicated in the country, these results are recognized by the international community.
During the event, the participants of the international conference highly appreciated the experience of Uzbekistan in combating human trafficking and forced labor. It was especially emphasized that the results achieved in the field are important for the implementation of the principles of decent work in the country and ensuring employment of the population, the experience of Uzbekistan should become an example for other countries.
In particular, the Director General of the International Labor Organization Guy Ryder noted: “It can be concluded that the path of Uzbekistan in combating child labor and forced labor has shown its effectiveness, international standards have been implemented in national legislation, all departments have been involved and coordinated in this direction. their work has paid off."
The Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation, Sharan Barrow, noted the following: “The experience of Uzbekistan, which in a short time completely eradicated child labor and forced labor, today is an example for all countries. Thanks to strong political will, systemic reforms to combat child labor and forced labor, as well as effective international cooperation, the labor relations system has risen to the level of a world standard.”
The international event will continue its work until 20 May, at the event representatives of a number of international organizations and foreign countries will make presentations and exchange views on ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and forced labor.
