Traffic surveillance system to be set up in Tashkent by 2016

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A system of surveillance of traffic rules violations will be set up in Tashkent in 2014-2015, RIA Novosti reported quoting source in Main Department of Road Safety of Ministry of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The Government of Uzbekistan signed a contract with AGT International (Switzerland) to set up the system at 160 crossroads inTashkent, the source said. The sum of contract was not disclosed.
At the initial stage, the cameras will record speeding and running a red light. The system will be integrated with the equipment installed in the patrol cars.
Currently, the Uzbek side is conducting general construction works within the project. The project with the cost for about US$30 million is financed due to resources of Uzbekistan.
The system will also provide coordinated management of traffic lights for unloading streets in Tashkent, the source said. In the future, traffic surveillance system will be introduced in other regions of Uzbekistan.
Currently, there are 3 million cars in Uzbekistan, of which about 40% fell to share of Tashkent. The growth of car fleets makes up about 25% each year.
