Economy of Karakalpakstan grows by 11.5% in 2013

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The volume of the gross regional product (GRP) of Karakalpakstan grew by 11.5% in 2013, the session of the local activists, dedicated to the results of 2013 and priority directions of economic development of Karakalpakstan in 2014.
The volume of industrial production increased by 11.5% in 2013, production of consumer products – by 13%, construction works – 20.7%, agriculture products – 7,1%, trade and catering – 27.6%, and services – 15.5%.
Karakalpakstan continued to develop industry, construction of Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex and increase production capacities of Kungrad Soda Plant. The modernization at Takhiatash thermal power station due to investments US$185.3 billion soums is continuing.
Nukus Textile commissioned spinning, dyeing, knitting and ready garments production shops. Beruniy Astera Textile and Aziya Silk launched production of new products. Some 255 projects were implemented in this direction in 2013.
Within the regional programme on increasing production potential industry, some 295 small enterprises were commission due to investments for US$50.8 million. Enterprises of Karakalpakstan increased the volume of exports twice in 2013 compared to 2012.
The banks issued 271.4 billion soums to develop small businesses and private entrepreneurship. Shareof small businesses in the GRP reached 64% in 2013, UzA reported.
Karakalpakstan carried out measures on employment of the graduates of the colleges. Some 49,991 new jobs were created in Karakalpakstan, and half of them fell to share of the graduates of the colleges.
