Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 October 2013, in the framework of Follow-up Cooperation Project, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held public seminar for the welfare of deaf and blind people in Miran International Hotel, Tashkent, together with the Cultural Center for the Deaf of Tashkent City.
It is notable that 2 deaf and blind people lecturers, Ms. Akiko FUKUDA and Ms. Miwa MURAOKA, were invited from Japan together with their interpreter-guides. This is the first case for JICA to dispatch deaf and blind people people to abroad as lectures.
This seminar was initiated by Mr. Komil Shodiev who participated in JICA training “Mainstreaming and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Central Asian Countries” in 2011 in Japan as a sign language interpreter. He was interested in Japanese official support system for deaf and blind people, and asked support for holding today’s seminar to Ms. Junko OHNO, JICA expert on Disability affairs, who has been dispatched to Uzbekistan since 2011.
Through this seminar and 3 day’s training, it is expected that Japanese official support system for deaf and blind people will serve as a useful reference for Uzbekistan’s future support system for deaf and blind people.
