Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. (JOGMEC) and the Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) of Uzbekistan have penned an agreement on Monday for the joint exploration of uranium in Uzbekistan.
As agreed, the amount of deposits in Uzbekistan will be evaluated during the five-year span of the project. The quality of uranium in the country will also be assessed.
JOGMEC will conduct exploration works at Juzyukuduk and Tamdykukuduk-Tulyantash perspective fields in Navoi region.
If JOGMEC finds uranium of high quality and reports potential utilization, Japan will then try to seek concession in order to import and export the metal.
Yukari Sato, the vice minister of the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry, together with other delegates, arrived in Uzbekistan on Sunday to sign the joint exploration project of Japan and Uzbekistan.
