Uzbekistan 25/01/2008 PMs of Eurasian countries meet in Moscow

The prime ministers of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will hear reports on the formation of the legal basis of the Customs Union within the EURASEC framework during the fulfilment of priority tasks of its development.

The agenda includes as well the item on the increase of the Russian quota for posts in the secretariat of the Integration Committee of Eurasian EC.

Participants in the meeting will discuss the development of the social sector of its member countries and measures for deepening integration in that sphere. The meeting will adopt protocols on Uzbekistan’s joining of the EURASEC documents. Prime ministers of six countries will express their opinion of the interstate special programme "Innovation technologies" and of the draft conceptual framework of the formation of common transport space of EURASEC.

The prime ministers of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will sign at the meeting nine agreements on the formation of the contractual and legal basis of the Customs Union. "Those international documents are aimed, in the first place, at establishing a common regime of trade with third countries. They outline the structure of the future Customs Union and provide for the gradual transfer of powers for the handling of foreign trade to the Customs Union commission. The heads of state adopted a resolution on the formation of the commission at their summit, held in Dushanbe last October," a representative of the press service of Eurasian EC told Itar-Tass.

The prime ministers held a number of bilateral meetings before the beginning of the current meeting.
