Plant on production of digital TV tuners opens in Navoi
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A new plant on production of digital television tuners (set-top-box) started its operation in Free Industrial and Economic Zone (FIEZ) Navoi on 28 August 2010, the Uzbek agency for Information and Communication (UzACI) said.

The UzACI carried out investment project “Organization of assembly of tuners (set-top-box) for digital television in order to implement presidential resolution from 12 March 2009 “On programme of measures in implementation of important projects on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment for 2009-2014” and order of the president from 25 March 2009.

Servetechno PTE LTD (Singapore), Uzbektelecom joint stock company and Telmax Elektroniks LTD (both Uzbekistan) adopted decision to create enterprise on assembly of digital television tuners at FIEZ Navoi in order to satisfy needs of population for tuners.

On 23 February 2010, the sides registered joint venture in form of limited liability company Telecom Innovations.

Land was allocated in Karmana district of Navoi region at the FIEZ Navoi to implement project. Total area of the plant is 0.8 hectares and production capacities – 0.28 hectares.

Total cost of the project is 6.8 billion soums. The project was financed by the Uzbek side by Uzbektelecom and Telmax Elektroniks, as well as loans of ICT Development Fund.

The capacity of the enterprise is over 50,000 tuners per year. The cost of products, manufactured at the new enterprise, will be lower compared to foreign analogues due to preferences, provided to enterprises created at FIEZ Navoi.

Set-top-box with use of MPEG-4 technology will allow to receive digital TV programmes on ordinary TV-sets. Comfortable menu will allow fast switch between channels and editing channels.
