Pervak, Kudryavtseva make it to last four at Tashkent open 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Top seeded Russian Ksenia Pervak will take on Poland’s Urszula Radwanska, while Czech Republic’s Eva Birnerova will take on current champion and sixth seeded Russian Alla Kudryavtseva in the semi finals of the Tashkent Open 2011 WTA championships.

In the quarter finals played at the Olympic School Tennis courts here today top seeded Russian Pervak ended the dream run of qualifier Victoria Larriere of France 6-1, 6-2, while Poland’s Urszula Radwanska made it to her first career Semifinal on the WTA tour slugging it out against Greece player Eleni Daniilidou 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

In a clash between unseeded players Czech Republic’s Eva Birnerova scored a close 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Russian Valeria Savinykh . Title holder and Sixth seeded Russian Alla Kudryavtseva overcame a close first set to win 7-6(5), 6-4 against former champion Romanian Sorena Cirstea.

Left handed topseed Ksenia Pervak registered a 6-1, 6-2 win against qualifier Victoria Larriere of France in exactly one hour. Pervak just played a like a champion breaking Larriere four times in the first set and losing her serve once , and three times in the second set and being broken once.

"I didn’t expect an easy match today, I had played her once in the junior event in a close match. The match was not as easy as the score lines suggest," said the top seed Pervak after her win . Speaking about the semi finals she said " Every opponent is tough and I’ll need to play my game and be more focused."

Pervak’s opponent in the last four stage will be unseeded Polish player Urszula Radwanska who came through another three setter and avenging her defeat earlier this year against Greece’s Eline Daniilidou in the longest match of the day and making it to her first ever semi final on the WTA tour event, Radwanska won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in 2 hours and 30 mins.

"I had lost to Eleni after being a match point last time , and I knew the match was going to be tough. I had problems because of the windy conditions and good serve and backhand slices from my opponent , but I’m happy to have won and reaching my first ever semi finals on the WTA circuit," said the 20 year old Radwanska after the match.

Radwanska made it look easy racing to a 5-0 lead in the first set , but Eleni broke in the 6th and the 8th games to reduce the deficit, but lost her serve in the 9th game allowing Radwanska to go 1 set up.

The second set Eleni raced to a 3-1 lead breaking Radwanska in the 3rd game , but Radwanska broke back in the 6th game to level scores at 3-3. . Eleni brought out all her experience mixing her shots well to unsettle Radwanska and break back in the 7th game and then held on serving well to win the set 6-4 and level set scores.

The third set saw the Polish player contain Eleni to the baseline hitting deep series forehand shots and breaking the Greek player in the 2nd game and 6th games to lead 5-1 , but Eleni who had earlier won from being a match point down against Urszula at Fes earlier this year clawed her way back breaking Radwanska in the 7th and the 9th games to come back on serve. But in 10th game the experienced Greek player lost her rhythm and went down tamely losing her serve and the match.

Unseeded Czech player Eva Birnerova currently ranked 115 who upset seventh seeded Evgeniya Rodina yesterday continued her good run accounting for another unseeded player Valeria Savinykh of Russia 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a well contested match. Birnerova secured the decisive break in the 10th game to go up 1 set to love .

In the second set Savinykh broke Birnerova twice in the 3rd and the 5th games after 4 deuces each to race to a 4-1 lead , but the stocky Czech players clawed her way back breaking the Russian in the 6th and the 8th games . Birnerova however could not hold on to her 9th game and went down 4-5, Savinykh seized the opportunity and held the 10th game to win the set 6-4 and level scores .

In the decider After trading early breaks Birnerova broke in the 6th game after a double fault from Savinykh and held on her serves to wrap the match and set up a meeting with title holder Alla Kudryavtseva.

In a clash of champions Kudryavtseva scored a close 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Sorana Cirstea despite serving 7 double faults. The first set saw both champions trade breaks early in the set, In the tiebreak that ensued Kudryavtseva served two brilliant aces to win the tiebreak and go up 1-0.

In the second set both players displayed high quality tennis , Cirstea had her chances in the 6th game securing two breakpoints , but Kudryavtseva showed nerves of steel to hold on to the game . Kudryavtseva clinched on an opportunity in the 9th game and broke Cirstea and then held on in the 10th game in spite serving 2 double faults and being two break points down to clinch the issue and move into the last four.

"It was a close match and I’m thrilled the way I played in spite of some crucial mistakes," said Alla after the match.
