Penalties for human trafficking crimes to be toughened

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The second plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis discussed the Law “On Amending Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Strengthen Penalties for Human Trafficking Crimes.”

During the discussion, it was noted that the country is systematically working to protect citizens' rights, combat human trafficking, and provide support to victims.

Special emphasis was placed on increasing penalties for crimes involving human trafficking, particularly in cases involving abduction, violence or threats of violence, and other forms of coercion.

The proposal also includes tougher penalties for crimes related to human trafficking involving pregnant women.

Senators highlighted that the law aims to prevent human trafficking crimes, enhance efforts to combat them, and protect the rights of women and children.

The law was approved by the Senate.
