Uzbekistan 14/10/2009 PDPU, Adolat submit signature lists to enter parliamentary poll
Central Electoral Commission
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) and the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party have submitted to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) lists with signatures of voters supporting their participation in the forthcoming parliamentary election.

The PDPU was the first political party to submit signature lists. The party collected over 44,000 voters’ signatures in its support.

Members of the PDPU want to exercise their constitutional right by taking part in the forthcoming parliamentary election, the deputy chairman of the central council of the PDPU, Ulugbek Vafoyev, said. All the documents needed for this were prepared.

In line with amendments made to the electoral legislation, the number of voters’ signatures which political parties must collect to have the right to take part in elections was decreased from 50,000 to 40,000.

The most favourable conditions have been created for parties, and new norms make the process of collecting signatures much easier. Voters’ support is evidence that they are interested in the country’s future, the member of the PDPU said.

According to the head of the department for organizational affairs of the Adolat party’s central council, Rustam Yodgorov, the political council’s 12th plenary session adopted a decision to collect voters’ signatures in order to ensure the party’s participation in the election.

"We managed to collect over 46,000 signatures over the past two weeks," he said.

The Central Electoral Commission gave certificates to the PDPU and the Adolat party.
