Parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 27 August, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus have strengthened in recent years, thanks to the interactions between the presidents of the two countries.

The discussion highlighted the ongoing active political dialogue and constructive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus on international platforms.

It was noted that the parliaments of both countries are actively collaborating within international parliamentary organizations such as the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Additionally, the focus was placed on the activities of the friendship groups between the two countries. It was mentioned that the activities in this direction have been reviewed, and the name of the commission has been changed to the Interparliamentary Commission of the Senate for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.

It was emphasized that this Commission will now closely monitor the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, provide practical support for their timely and high-quality execution, and increase the involvement of local people’s councils in its work.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in legislation, gender and youth policies, experience exchange in education and medicine, expanding regional ties, and digital development of regions.

The parties also discussed the essence and significance of the Uzbek-Belarusian Women’s Business Forum.

It was noted that the second edition of this business forum aims to develop new proposals for advancing women’s entrepreneurship and strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Following the meeting, the heads of the parliaments of both countries, with the participation of the delegation, signed a Plan of Joint Activities ("roadmap") for the development of cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus for 2024-2025.

Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, signed the Book of Honorary Guests of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
