Sports 24/04/2008 Pakhtakor rallies, beats Arbil 5-1 to keep hopes alive

The victory at Prince Mohammed International Stadium in Zarqa, east of Amman, gave Pakhtakor seven points and kept it within three points of Group D leader Al Qadisiya of Kuwait, which won 1-0 at Qatar’s Al Gharafa.

With only the group winner advancing, the results eliminated both Arbil and Al Gharafa.

Haidar Sabah Husan gave Arbil the lead in 19th minute when his free kick deflected off the Pakhtakor wall and past goalkeeper Ignatiy Nesterov. But Pakhtakor equalized seven minutes before halftime when Salah Siamend deflected Darko Markovic’s corner kick into his own goal.

Second-half substitute Nodirbek Kuziboyev gave Pakhtakor the lead in the 69th, 10 minutes after entering the game, and sparked a four-goal outburst in 21 minutes.

Markovic doubled the lead four minutes later, Alexander Geynrikh scored with a bicycle kick in the 80th, and Akmal Holmatov finished the scoring from a free kick in added time.
