Uzbekistan 28/11/2007 Over one tonne of drugs seized in Uzbek anti-drug operations
The full-page report detailing results of the "Black Poppy - 2007" anti-drug operation says that this nationwide operation had produced positive results. Specifically, the article says: "As a result, 4,393 drug-related crimes were logged, and criminal charges were brought against about 4,000 people. It should be noted that the total amount of drugs seized in the operation was over 900 kg, that is double the previous year’s amount."

The article also presents results of the first stage of the Kanal-2007 (Channel-2007) anti-drug operation, which was held in Uzbekistan in late August 2007 along with other Collective Security Treaty Organization member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan).

"In all, during the first stage of the operation, 134 drug-related crimes, including 64 related to the sale of drugs and four related to the smuggling of drugs, were uncovered in Uzbekistan. Over 100 criminal cases were opened, and offenders were called to account. As a result, 106 kg of drugs were seized," the article says.

It also praises Uzbek police’s efforts to prevent smuggling of Afghan drugs via Uzbekistan. At the same time, meetings were also held at government organizations and educational establishments to promote the fight against drugs, the report adds
