"We hope that this tool will help the Ministry to improve the collection of data necessary for effective water resource management, which plays a key role in the economy and environment of Central Asia," said Ambassador Ivar Vikki, the Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.
The First Deputy Minister of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, Khidoyatulo Inoyatov, noted that the project implemented by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan was carried out with a high degree of professionalism. "The system to be set up with the software is required for the provision of operational data to water supply agencies, timely dissemination of information on the management process, and the co-ordination of water management tasks at various stages. Also, it can help raise public awareness of water management," he said.
This OSCE-supported project aims to assist Tajikistan in establishing a standardized system of water data collection, analysis and transfer to better address water resource management challenges. It streamlines information flows on water management between the Ministry’s units and facilitates the negotiations on the distribution of water and energy resources between suppliers and consumers.
