OSCE Centre support seminar for Kazakhstani border officials
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A four-day training seminar for Kazakhstani Border Service officials, co-organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana, began in Pavlodar, close to the country’s northern border, on 23 November 2009.

The OSCE Centre is organizing the seminar in co-operation with the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Border Service of Kazakhstan.

Andrew Offenbacher, Political Officer at the OSCE Centre in Astana, conveyed the message to the participants that "the seminar is part of the OSCE Centre’s efforts to assist Kazakhstan in strengthening the professionalism and operational capacity of its border service".

It is the second such training held this year, following a similar event in July on Kazakhstan’s southern border.

The participants, 25 Kazakhstani border controllers from six of the country’s regions, will learn about European best practices in a variety of areas, including combating drug and arms trafficking, human trafficking and illegal migration. They will also learn about integrated border management, vehicle inspection and mobile document checks on trains and buses.
